Kentucky's Oldest Festival

Since 1948, Barbourville has hosted the Daniel Boone Festival — Kentucky's oldest continuous festival. Each October, downtown Barbourville transforms into a celebration of pioneer life and Appalachian heritage. The streets fill with craft demonstrations, artisan markets, parades, pageants, and living history reenactments that recreate the world of early Knox County settlers.

At the heart of the festival are the heritage crafts — demonstrations of the skills that kept frontier families alive. Blacksmiths hammer red-hot iron at the anvil. Artisans dip candles by hand. Spinners turn raw wool into yarn at the wheel. Soap is made the old way, with lye and tallow. These demonstrations aren't just performances; they're a living connection to the past.

The Farmers Market runs Saturday mornings from May through October, often featuring craft vendors. Knox County craft fairs at the fairgrounds and local churches bring together regional makers.
